Shenzhen University Hosts "Afternoon Tea with the Party Secretary", Bringing University Leaders Face to Face with New Student

October 24, 2026

On the afternoon of October 22, Shenzhen University held its "Afternoon Tea with the Party Secretary" event on the Lihu Campus. Party Secretary Xu Bo, Vice President Li Yonghua, and heads of administrative departments and selected schools joined 22 new undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students from the Lihu Campus schools around the table for an open discussion.

The new students spoke positively of the university's educational environment and offered suggestions on their academic development. Topics included access to information about their programs, laboratory and hands-on courses, policies on postgraduate admission via entrance exams and recommendation, the mechanism for adding extra places to full courses during enrollment, career and internship guidance for professional master's students, and the shortage of study spaces for graduate students. In response, the schools and administrative departments concerned said on the spot that they had launched program-introduction courses and would step up program briefings, streamline the process for adding extra places to full courses, and ensure that the professional practice requirements for professional master's students are met.

Regarding daily life, students focused their feedback on commuting between off-campus housing and campus, access to campus information, water and electricity billing and the disclosure of subsidy details, the taste of cafeteria food, the availability of convenience facilities, elevator flow management during peak hours, and the consolidation of parcel pickup stations. The head of the Lihu Campus Management Office responded that details of water and electricity subsidies would be published monthly in line with the discounted rates for on-campus students, that convenience facilities such as microwaves and self-service printers would be phased in, and that the office would work with the property management company to improve elevator services, shuttle bus arrangements, and parcel pickup stations.

Xu Bo said that the university always puts students' growth and success first, and that meeting them face to face was like holding an "on-site office" session: every suggestion and comment they raised would be carefully reviewed and followed up, so that each one sees a response. He urged students to take ownership of the university's development and take charge of their own life plans, honing core competencies such as critical thinking, creativity, and empathetic communication in the AI era.

Li Yonghua encouraged the students to develop good habits, stay grounded in their studies, and grow together with the university.
