The 2026 Oxford International Model United Nations (OxIMUN) China took place at the Yuehai Campus of Shenzhen University during July 19–22. Nearly 50 youth delegates from universities and secondary schools in China and other countries and regions convened across four days of academic debate and simulated diplomatic consultations on pressing international topics within the United Nations framework.
The conference featured four committees: the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the First Committee (DISEC) of the General Assembly of the United Nations, the Third Committee (GA3) of the General Assembly of the United Nations, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The UNSC focused on humanitarian stability in Afghanistan, sanctions exemptions for humanitarian assistance, and regional spillover risks.
The DISEC addressed outer space security governance, including norms restricting debris-generating tests and close-proximity escort operations. The GA3 held discussions on information security and social impacts in the context of generative artificial intelligence.
The UNESCO conducted policy consultations on educational system reform in the era of artificial intelligence.
In addition to formal sessions, the conference featured delegate training, bureau training and campus exchange activities, covering UN rules of procedure, policy document drafting, public speaking, and analysis of international issues.
Multiple working papers and draft resolutions were produced during the conference, touching upon areas including international security, humanitarian assistance, artificial intelligence governance, and educational cooperation.
The Oxford International Model United Nations China is the annual China-based conference of OxIMUN. This year marks its first hosting at Shenzhen University. The conference concluded on July 22.
