On November 26, 2024, the 3rd Carnival for Taiwan Teachers and Students in Shenzhen Colleges and Universities was officially launched at Shenzhen University. The event was attended by Zeng Wufei, Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government; Wang Jue, Deputy Director; Zhang Xiaohong, Vice President of Shenzhen University; Wu Ying, Level IV Division Rank Official at the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League; Li Yongxia, Member of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League and Head of its Secretariat; and 100 faculty and students from colleges and universities in Shenzhen and Taiwan.
The carnival is guided by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government and organized by Shenzhen University, with the Shenzhen Students’ Federation and the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League as co-organizers. Faculty and students from both Shenzhen and Taiwan played an active role in planning and organizing the activities. The main goal is to create a platform for deeper exchange and interaction between Taiwan and mainland students and faculty, helping them explore agricultural culture, experience sportsmanship, and understand Shenzhen's spirit of innovation as a Special Economic Zone. The event also seeks to strengthen cross-strait friendships and energize the peaceful development of cross-strait relations through youth involvement.
At the opening ceremony, faculty and students from both sides of the Taiwan Strait came together to organize, choreograph, and perform a variety of cultural and sports programs. The performances highlighted Taiwan's unique customs while blending elements of Chinese mainland's cultural traditions. The result was a vibrant showcase of collaboration and unity, reflecting the positive and forward-looking spirit of both sides. The energy of the event quickly built to a lively crescendo.
During the carnival, participants from both Shenzhen and Taiwan will visit a variety of iconic locations, including the RoboMaster Robotics Laboratory and the National Media Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center at Shenzhen University, as well as landmarks like OCT (Overseas Chinese Town) and Tencent Headquarters. These visits offer hands-on opportunities to experience technological advancements and innovative spirit, showcasing Shenzhen's rapid development over the past 40 years and deepening their understanding of China's remarkable achievements in reform and opening up. Later, participants will head to Zhangxi She Ethnic Township in Heyuan, where they will engage in agricultural and cultural activities, including a bonfire party. These activities will allow them to immerse themselves in rural farming traditions, learn about agricultural practices, and strengthen their cultural confidence and sportsmanship. Ultimately, the event aims to foster a stronger sense of shared identity and reinforce the close, familial ties between the people of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.
This is the third edition of the Carnival for Taiwan Teachers and Students in Shenzhen Colleges and Universities, following two previous successful editions. Building on past experience, this year's carnival introduces new elements, including rural cultural activities, to further enhance the cultural exchange and emotional resonance between students and faculty from Shenzhen and Taiwan.
