Zhou Xinrui has broken everyone's stereotype of art students

Also impressed the judges and teachers

Finally, shestood on the podium of the “Liyuan Star of Excellence Nomination Award”

Zhou Xinrui's affinity withbroadcastingand hostingdates back to her experience in a a host class in elementary school. With a lively and outgoing personality, she has made her way into the top five of the city TV’s young host competition with her confidentbehaviorand professional performance. This experience not only enabled her to gain growth on the path of “a budding hostess”, but also strengthened her love for broadcasting and hosting.

From elementary school to high school, Zhou Xinrui was a hostess for the campus radio. After entering Shenzhen University, she was naturally attracted by the Shenzhen University Radio Station.Whenshefirst touched the microphone of the radio station on the 6th floor of Huiyuan Building,Zhou Xinrui felt a sense of belonging.” I also sent amomentsaying, ‘I still like the feeling of holding the microphone.’ ”

Zhou Xinrui believes that her electivecourse“Communication Theory” helpstostrengthen the “core” of the host, and can provideher withtheoretical guidance in the practice of broadcasting and hosting. She quoted the communication scholar Michael Lohan's “Media is the extension of people, and extension means cutting off.” Andshetalked aboutherunderstanding of the theme of Language, Art, and Culture Exhibition of Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macao University Students--“awakening ears”: in the era of mobile terminals, earphones cut off many of people's hearing;however, she believes that the language forms of recitation and speech can liberate people from a small listening environment. This three-dimensional and all-round enjoyment isawakening.

At this exhibition, Zhou Xinrui and her companionsperformed the 60 year span of space-time dialogue between Jiang Jie andherson in the form of reading letters. She liberated Jiang Jie's image as a mother and soldier in the participating work “Soul of Red Rock”, as well as the comparison between the present and the past over the past 60 years. They interpreted the play out ofthe text, allowing the audience to feel the power of the voice “awakeningtheir ears”.

During the preparation for her performance in“Soul of Red Rock”, Zhou Xinrui also participated in another competition but did not achieve the desired results. Instead of falling into endless self denial, she promptly jumped out of her personal perspective and consulted with her peers to obtain advice from the judges and teachers. As she said,“Art is just an angle, which can open up your thinking, but it cannot negate your ability.”Zhou Xinrui is pleased to encounter it and continues to expand her understanding of sound art through learning and sedimentation.

“The possibility of art comes from its power, as well as its unrestricted nature.”Stories that carry humanistic care and sound decoration are always more touching. In her freshman year, Zhou Xinrui participated in the“Bay Area Youth Speaking”speech competition. Although there was still a certain distance between entering the top ten and her psychological expectations, on this open stage, she heard different voices from students, delivery guys, and ethnic minority friends. The stories of these different groups all carried the temperature of life. This also made Zhou Xinrui realize that the significance of a speech lies not in how good the language skills are, but in how many people can be influenced by the content conveyed.

Therefore, Zhou Xinrui is also exploring more possibilities for combining sound and video, focusing on small things around her with social care. At the 27th China Documentary Film Academic Festival, Zhou Xinrui was deeply moved by the small character narrative of the documentary“Above the Wood, Rice, Oil, and Salt”, and became interested in documentary filming. In her sophomore year, she ventured into a new field and took relevant elective courses. Under the guidance of Ms. Wang Ting, she completed a small documentary on environmental protection with campus birds. She“used the camera and language to let the unseen be seen and the dumb be heard.”

At the end of herspeechat the Liyuan Star of Excellence SelectionMeeting, Zhou Xinrui quoted Dan Pisa Moyo as saying, “The best time to plant a tree was 10 years ago. The second best time is now.” After nearly four years of studying broadcasting and hosting arts at Shenzhen University, Zhou Xinrui has worked hard to make her encounter with sound realistic, rewarding, and meaningful. In the future, Zhou Xinrui intends to pursue advanced studies, enter the field of journalism and communication, and continue to practice the concept of “dare to start, dare to persist”.
