"Having an academician as the head teacher or chief professor is truly next-level!" In 2024, Shenzhen University (SZU) made headlines by launching four pioneering Academician-taught Classes, attracting significant attention during the university entrance admissions. Now that the new students have settled in, many are eager to discover what makes these classes so exceptional. On September 4, the SZU National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data System Computing Technology held the inaugural class meeting for the IEEE Honors Class of 2024. SZU President Mao Junfa, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences serves as the class director. In this session, both internal and external mentors shared their real-world research expertise, aspirations, and insights to help students set clear goals at the beginning of their university journey.
The meeting featured industry leaders and academic experts, including Wang Juhong, Vice President of Tencent; Kang Ning, President of Huawei Cloud Global Ecosystem; and Wang Linpeng, Deputy Director of BGI Group's Education Center. They were joined by representatives from the SZU Youth League Committee, the Academic Affairs Office, the Admissions Office, and the College of Computer Science and Software Engineering, as well as faculty members from the lab and all students in the IEEE Honors Class of 2024. The event was chaired by Li Jianqiang, Executive Director of the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data System Computing Technology and Associate Dean of the College of Computer Science and Software Engineering at SZU.
