Professor Yuan Xiaocong from the Institute of Microscale Optoelectronics at Shenzhen University elected to the Academia Europaea

Recently, Professor Marja Makarow, President of the Academia Europaea, sent a congratulatory letter to Professor Yuan Xiaocong, commending his election as a Member of the Academia Europaea (MAE).

Since its establishment in 1988, the Academia Europaea has honored nearly 5,500 distinguished Fellows, including nearly 90 Nobel Prize laureates. Professor Yuan Xiaocong from Shenzhen University (SZU) has now joined this esteemed group as an elected MAE in 2024.

He holds the position of Chair Professor at Shenzhen University and serves as the Director of the Nanophotonics Research Center. He is a nationally recognized talent, holding titles such as Distinguished Professor and member of the State Council's discipline evaluation group. Additionally, he serves as the Chief Scientist of the Zhejiang Lab and is a Fellow of prestigious organizations, including the Chinese Optical Society (FCOS), the Optical Society of America (OpticaF), the International Society for Optics and Photonics (FSPIE), and the Institute of Physics (FInstP) in the United Kingdom. Graduating with B.S. and M.S. degrees from Tianjin University in 1985 and 1988 respectively, Professor Yuan earned his Ph.D. from King's College London in 1994. He worked for many years at institutions such as the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, and Nankai University in China, where he gained extensive experience. After joining Shenzhen University in 2013, he established the Nanophotonics Research Center. Professor Yuan has authored over 600 SCI-indexed papers, including publications in renowned journals such asScience,Nature Photonics,Nature Physics,Nature Communications,Science Advances,Physical Review Letters, andPNAS. He has consistently been recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher in China and ranks among the top 2% of scientists globally. Additionally, he holds more than 30 authorized invention patents and has received prestigious awards, such as the China Patent Excellence Award, the Second-Class Award for Natural Science in the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards, and the Second Prize in the Natural Science Award in Shenzhen. He now serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the esteemed international journalAdvanced Photonics.
