The results of The First Annual Selection of The Top Ten Humanities and Social Sciences Achievements of Shenzhen University have been announced

In order to motivate and mobilize the enthusiasm of our university’s philosophy and social science specialists to carry out academic research, strengthen theory popularization, serve economic and social development, and promote the productions of high-quality works, masterpieces, and talents in the field of philosophy and social science of our university, we organized and performed The First Annual Selection of The Top Ten Humanities and Social Sciences Achievements of Shenzhen University, including 4 items in publications, 5 items in thesis and 1 item in consulting service report.

1. The monograph onThe History of Chinese Aesthetics in the 20th Century(four volumes)

“The History of Chinese Aesthetics in the 20th Century”, edited in chief by Gao Jianping, was a dual major project of the National Social Science Fund and the National Publishing Fund, and was also a national key publication planning project in the “13th Five-Year Plan”. This set of monographs was divided into four volumes, with 1.5 million words, and discussed the history of Chinese aesthetics from 1900 to 2000 in different time interval. The monograph adhered to the principle of “historical facts with arguing” and examined the development of aesthetics in the turbulent historical process of the 20th century. The monograph insisted on integration of the ancient and the present, and had a world perspective. It was committed to summarizing the aesthetics that were both modern and native, so as to diligently focus on the research of historical process of the development of “Chinese-style Modernization” in the field of this discipline. This achievement has been published in separate volumes by Phoenix Education Publishing, Ltd. in Jiangsu Province from 2020 to 2022.

2. The monograph on “Study on the Aesthetics of Ganwu in Ancient China”

This monograph was the first comprehensive and systematical study on the basic theory of aesthetics of Ganwu in ancient China, which has made important breakthroughs in many theoretical fields. This monograph discussed the philosophical basis of aesthetics of Ganwu in ancient China and described its development history; The author carefully dissected the types and methods of aesthetics of Ganwu in ancient China, and deeply explored the aesthetic experience characteristics of aesthetics of Ganwu in ancient China and its value to the creation of artistic images. This monograph attempted to deepen the understanding of China’s traditional aesthetics through the in-depth research of aesthetics of Ganwu in ancient China. It sought the way to activate the category of China’s ancient aesthetics, and provided reference for the construction of modern literature and art and aesthetics with national characteristics. This monograph has been published by People’s Publishing House in October 2021.

3. The monograph on “The Four Major Aestheticists in History of Japan”

For China’s aesthetic art, Japan’s modern aesthetic art since the Meiji Restoration was originally a “Japanese bridge” connecting East and West, tradition and modernity. However, today it is a “Japanese mirror” that can be used for reference. As the first monograph on the study of modern Japanese aesthetics and art in China to date, this monograph was a comprehensive study of the aesthetic and artistic theoretical achievements of the four major aestheticians in modern Japan with the greatest achievements and profound influence, namely, Osikili, Ueda Juzo, Takeuchi Toshio, and Tomonobu Imamichi. At the same time, it also showed an overview description of the key elements of modern Japanese aesthetic art that originated from Meiji era to the end of Heisei era, aiming at providing valuable resources and references for the study of contemporary Chinese aesthetic art. This monograph has been published by China Federation of Literary and Art Circles Publishing House in March 2021.

4. The monograph on “The Compilation of Reviews of Du Fu’s Poems in Goryeo and Joseon Era”

“A Compilation of Reviews of Du Fu’s Poems in Goryeo and Joseon Era”was the first ancient classics in the field of overseas Chinese literature research to compile and sort out Du Fu’s poems’ commentaries, which filled a gap in this field. This monograph was also a masterpiece of overseas comments material on Du Fu, which fully showed the rich and unique features of accept, influence and discussion, etc., on Du Fu and his poems in the Korean Peninsula. “The Compilation” was a selection based on reading over 4,000 or 5,000 kinds of anthologies, poetry criticism and notes, which were abundant and exquisite; Each piece of information has been carefully proofread and the source was indicated, which was rigorous and accurate. “The Compilation” was a necessary supplement and improvement to the construction of “Du Fu’s poetics”, which would help to promote the research process of Du Fu’s poetics in East Asia. This monograph has been published by Shanghai Classics Publishing House in December 2021.

5. The academic thesis on “Shenzhen Miracle and the Reform Wisdom of the Communist Party of China (CPC)”

In the centennial history of the CPC, the establishment of a socialist market economy system and taking the Socialism with Chinese characteristics path fully demonstrated the CPC’s path confidence, theoretical confidence, institutional confidence and cultural confidence. The success of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone further proved that the CPC’s decision and policy on reform and opening was wise, and China’s path was confirmed to be correct. At the same time, it also reflected the CPC’s reform wisdom and strength and charm derived from thought and path. From the perspective of the history of the CPC, the great course of the construction of China’s Special Economic Zone for more than 40 years in this paper was reviewed, summarized and considered, and the reform wisdom of the CPC and the correctness of the chosen path with the development achievements of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone were verified. The full text of this achievement was reproduced in the 17th issue of “Xinhua Digest” in 2021.

6. The academic thesis on “The Research of Para-text of Bonnie S. McDougall’s English Translation of ‘Speech at the Yan’an Forum on Literature and Art’”

Three functions of Bonnie S. McDougall’s English translation offprint version of “The Speech”were illustrated in this paper by textual research on its para-text, such as appendices, annotation and introduction: The first was to restore the historical context and the original appearance of the text of “The Speech”; The second was to enhance the communication between the literary and artistic thoughts of “The Speech” and western literary theory through the abstraction of key words, core categories and the stripping of historical context; The third was to trace the theoretical origin of the literary and artistic aesthetic thought of “The Speech”, and construct the interconnection and mutual interpretation relationship between the original text and para-text versions of the translation. The para-text realized the reconstruction of the aesthetic theory of “The Speech” in the context of the target language. Although there were many misunderstandings and forced explanations, it provided important guidance and reference for the understanding and acceptance of the target language readers. This thesis has been published in “Literature Review” in May 2021.

7. The academic thesis on “The Reality, Necessity and Conceptual System of Journalism in the Digital Age”

Based on the practical and conceptual crises faced by the global journalism industry in the process of digital transformation, the elementary proposition that journalism needs to innovate its theoretical system and research paradigm to respond to industry changes and maintain its own knowledge authority was proposed in this paper. On this basis, an epistemological framework for theoretical innovation and paradigm evolution of journalism has been established, and it was clear that the epistemological starting point for solving the development path of journalism theory lied in the interpretation and disambiguation of the relationship between “digitalization” and “journalism”. This paper was the representative achievement of the National Social Science Foundation’s major project “Research on the Theory, Method and Practice of Digital Journalism”. It has been published in “Journalism & Communication” in September 2021, and attracted wide attention from academic circles at home and abroad. It was reprinted in the full text of “Chinese Social Science Digest”, reported and recommended by “Chinese Social Sciences Today” in the front page. Meanwhile, it was translated into English and published by SAGE, which was an internationally renowned publishing house.

8.The academic thesis on “Matching daily home health-care demands with supply in service-sharing platforms

Focusing on the value of emerging business models to alleviate the contradiction between supply and demand of aged care services, the matching problem of supply and demand of home-based aged care services with shared service platforms were specifically investigated in this paper. The matching schemes under different service strategies were analyzed – including “platform self-interest”, “hard work and happy life”, “customer first” and “maximum social welfare”. And the influence of key parameters was discussed – such as lunch break, service dependence and flexibility of service time. The results showed that flexible service hours would increase the benefits of all parties to varying degrees, and the negative impact of lunch break and service dependence on the benefits of all parties depended on service strategies; It was necessary to sacrifice part of the benefits of all parties to obtain the maximum total social welfare, and sharing had advantages.This achievement was published in the first issue of “Transportation Research Part E-Logistics and Transportation Review”

9. The academic thesis onActive school travel is associated with fewer suicide attempts among adolescents from low-and middle-income countries

The health data of 127,097 teenagers aged 13-17 years in 34 low-and middle-income countries were analyzed in this investigation. It was found that the active commuting way is a “low-cost, green and depression relieving for teenagers” healthy lifestyle, thus reducing the incidence of attempted suicide. A new healthy lifestyle to resist the risk of depression and suicide was proposed to cultivate in this investigation. The innovation and frontier in health management research were highlighted, which had great social and economic value. This achievement was published in the first issue of “International Journal of Clinical and Health Psychology” (SSCI, the first district of Chinese Academy of Sciences) in 2021, with only 30 papers published annually.

10. Advisory service report on “Suggestions on Further Giving Play to the Advantage of ‘priority to pilot’ Policy and Deepening to Promote the Cooperation and Development of Higher Education in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao”

An in-depth research and analysis on the situation of higher education cooperation in Guangdong Province were conducted in this investigation report, and the present condition and prominent problems of the higher education cooperation in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao were systematically summarized. In addition, the relevant countermeasures and suggestions on how to better promote the cooperation and development of higher education in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao during the process of building Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area were proposed. After the report was adopted and submitted by the relevant department, it was positively instructed by the central leadership and required to make following up investigation. Subsequently, at the seminar organized by the department of higher education authorities, the first author Li Peiwen made a special representation on the main contents of the report, which provided positive theoretical reference and support for the decision-making work of the relevant departments.
