Shenzhen Univeristy with 252 published applications ranked third among educational institutions filing the most International patent applications via WIPO in 2020, only to the University of California and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
According to figures released by the WIPO, International patent applications filed via PCT grew by 4% in 2020 to reach 275,900 applications despite the influence of Covid-19 pandemic. China remained the largest user of WIPO’s PCT System with 68,720 applications, a 16.1% year-on-year growth. In 2019, China surpassed the U.S. to become the top filer of international patent applications via WIPO.
SZU was one of the top three patent filers among institutions for the third consecutive year. Tsinghua University with 231 and Zhejiang University with 209 applications ranked fourth and fifth respectively. The top 10-university list comprises five universities from China, four from the U.S., and one from Japan.
