Dean Fan Yue of the School of Architecture & Urban Planning at Shenzhen University elected a foreign associate of the Engineering Academy of Japan

Recently, the Engineering Academy of Japan (EAJ) held a council meeting, during which a new batch of Japanese members and foreign associates were elected. Fan Yue, a distinguished professor at Shenzhen University (SZU) and dean of the School of Architecture & Urban Planning at SZU, was elected as a foreign associate of EAJ.

Profile

Fan Yue graduated from the School of Architecture of Southeast University in 1988 and obtainedadoctorate degree from the University of Tokyo in 1999. Currently, he is a distinguished professor at SZU, serving as the Dean of the School of Architecture & Urban Planning at SZU, Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Subtropical Building and Urban Science, and Director of the Research Center for Human-Environment and Sustainable Designat SZU.

Fan Yue is a renowned expert in architectural education, design, and theoretical research in China. He has won the 2016 Architectural Education Award of the Architectural Society of China and has been a participant of the Program for New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education. Besides, he has received the first prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award and the 2024 Huaxia Construction Science and Technology Award. He serves as a member of the Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA) Committee on Social Responsibility, a full member of the Architectural Institute of Japan, a researcher at the Jyukankyo Research Institute, a member of the National Board of Architectural Accreditation, and an executive director of the Building Renovation and Urban Renewal Special Committee of the Architectural Society of China. His design works have been selected into the excellent works selection of the Japanese magazineJournal of Architecture and Building Science, and he has been rated as one of the 100 leading Chinese architects by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

Fan Yue has presided over and undertaken more than 10 national research projects, including key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and projects of the National Key Research and Development Program of China. He has published more than 10 monographs, compiled works, and textbooks. He serves as the Chief Editor of the Chinese edition of the well-known international journalSHINKENCHIKUand the Editor-in-Chief ofWorld Architecture Review. He has continuously carried out innovative research in the fields of future human settlements and the renovation design of existing buildings.

Introduction to EAJ

EAJ was established in 1987. It is composed of leading experts from academia, industry, and government institutions who possess a wide range of knowledge and have made outstanding contributions in engineering and technological sciences, and closely related fields. It is an authoritative academic representative institution in the field of engineering and technology in Japan. EAJ was elected as a member of the International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences (CAETS) in 1990 and has since played a significant role on the global stage.
