SZU's institute strives to enhance global influence

The Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) at Shenzhen University (SZU) convened a conference to mark its 10th anniversary on the university’s campus in Nanshan District today.

Over the preceding decade, the institute implemented a range of innovative initiatives in talent cultivation, scientific breakthroughs, and social services, achieving remarkable results.

Looking towards the future, Mao Junfa, the president of SZU, outlined the institute's aspirations to bolster its global influence.

Furthermore, Mao expressed his desire for the institute to nurture top-tier academic talent, promote innovative teaching methods, and advance interdisciplinary research.

Addressing the attendees, Lu Xiancai, vice president of Nanjing University (NJU), called for strengthened collaboration between IAS at SZU and schools at NJU to collectively further the high-quality development of the country's basic disciplines and advance interdisciplinary development.

Xie Huilin, the inaugural alumni representative of IAS and presently a postdoctoral researcher at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, shared reflections on her educational journey at IAS.

She highlighted that her time at IAS not only enriched her professional knowledge but also shaped her mindset and approach towards life, underscoring the invaluable impact of IAS's interdisciplinary training that broadened her academic horizons and significantly aided her subsequent scientific research pursuits.

Established in 2014 at Shenzhen University, IAS has been dedicated to providing both undergraduate and postgraduate education with a focus on interdisciplinary teaching and research. During the past decade, the institute has initiated a total of 134 national-level scientific research projects and published 2,236 SCI papers.

Moreover, in the last five years, IAS has successfully hosted nearly 200 lectures of various types and coordinated eight major academic conferences spanning various cutting-edge scientific disciplines.

Following the conference, IAS also organized two forums centered around elite talent cultivation and pioneering interdisciplinary scientific research.
