The unveiling ceremony for Shenzhen's first Guangdong Provincial High-level Clinical Medical School Development Unit took place at the First Affiliated Hospital (the First Clinical Medical School) of Shenzhen University (SZU). Esteemed guests included Academician Jiang Baoguo, Deputy Chairman of SZU's University Affairs Committee and Dean of the Medical School, as well as Zeng Hui, Party Committee Secretary of the First Affiliated Hospital. Representatives from the Higher Education Department of the Municipal Education Bureau, SZU's Medical School, and the First Affiliated Hospital were also present. The ceremony was hosted by Xu Xingzhi, Executive Director of SZU's Medical School.

During the ceremony, Shen Tianpeng announced the official notification from the Guangdong Government regarding the initiative to cultivate high-level clinical medical schools and affiliated hospitals. To advance new medical disciplines, Guangdong Province will establish a number of high-level medical institutions as outlined in theNotice from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education Regarding the Establishment of the First Batch of High-Level Clinical Medical Schools, Public Health Schools, and Traditional Chinese Medicine Schools. After a rigorous evaluation and selection process, the First Clinical Medical School of SZU was included in the initial batch by the provincial education department.
In recent years, the First Clinical Medical School has made significant progress in fostering close collaboration with SZU's central campus across medicine, education, research, and industry, yielding impressive outcomes. The hospital has consistently ranked in the top 1% worldwide in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) for five consecutive years. Its 15 disciplines, including Otolaryngology, ranked among the top 100 in the 2023 National Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics. The hospital's academic influence continues to grow with the support of SZU's leading disciplines, including foundational medicine, biomedical engineering, and clinical medicine. Additionally, six new specialist physician training bases have been established, achieving a residency examination pass rate of 96.75%, which exceeds both national and provincial averages. In 2023, the hospital published 530 academic papers in Chinese and international journals, with 356 featured in the prestigious Science Citation Index (SCI). Notably, the hospital successfully commercialized five technological achievements, ranking 24thnationwide and securing the top position in Shenzhen on the innovative achievement commercialization list for Chinese hospitals. In 2024, the hospital has already been awarded 23 projects by the National Natural Science Foundation, highlighting its growing strength in scientific research and innovation.
