On the morning of September 9, 2024, Shenzhen University (SZU)'s Hong Kong College held an opening ceremony to celebrate the commencement of its inaugural academic year, welcoming 95 freshmen enrolled in the Internet and New Media program at its teaching site in Hong Kong. Zhang Xiaohong, Vice President of SZU; Yuan Lei, Director of the Academic Affairs Office; and Chao Naipeng, Dean of the School of Media and Communication, attended the event in Hong Kong. They were joined by representatives from various SZU departments, including the Party and Government Office, the Publicity Department of the Party Committee, the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office, the Financial Planning Department, and the Admissions Office, to inspect the progress of the first day of classes.

The Hong Kong College, under the umbrella of SZU and affiliated with the School of Media and Communication, serves as a strategic initiative to foster deeper educational integration between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. It aims to support the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area while providing Hong Kong's youth with more varied opportunities for high-quality local higher education. Before the classes commenced in Hong Kong, the freshmen joined their peers from the School of Media and Communication at SZU's Yuehai Campus on September 4 for a joint opening ceremony. During this event, the new students were introduced to SZU's history, mission, overall strengths, faculty quality, and outstanding resources. They also gained insights into the School of Media and Communication, including its development, culture, management philosophy, and educational approach.
The opening ceremony marks the official launch of the Hong Kong College at SZU, representing an innovative step toward integrating higher education between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong. This initiative also highlights a new effort to collaborate in creating a model zone for international higher education.
