Warm welcome for freshmen: SZU leaders show their care and support
On the first day of the new university year, SZU President Mao Junfa, Vice President Wang Yongcheng, and department heads visited the freshman welcome area to greet new students from across the country. "How are the new students settling in?" "How many have registered so far?" "Are any students facing difficulties?" Mao Junfa asked these detailed questions about the registration progress and emphasized the importance of all departments providing thoughtful support and service.
At the Juhanzhai Dormitory Area, Mr. Mao engaged warmly with new students and their families, encouraging them to excel in their studies. "Where are you from? What major are you pursuing?" He asked them a few questions. Some students were both excited and nervous. When asked why they chose SZU, a freshman from Jiangmen in Guangdong and another from Jiangxi shared their reasons with enthusiasm.

Smooth registration with SZU's new one-stop orientation system
This year, SZU introduced a new one-stop orientation system to streamline the registration process for new students. With this system, most of the registration paperwork can be completed online before students even arrive on campus. During the summer vacation, incoming students can register their information and finalize much of their registration process online. They will then be automatically added to their class groups, giving them a head start in getting to know their school, teachers, and classmates. When the semester begins, students just need to swipe their student ID card at the registration point near the campus entrance to confirm their identity. They can then easily pick up their keys, enter their details, and move into their dorms. The system also provides quick access to information about tuition payments, counselor and homeroom teacher profiles, dorm assignments, and class details, making the process smooth and efficient. Students can schedule a time to pick up their military training gear and avoid waiting in long lines. To further assist new students, an AI Orientation Assistant is available within the system to answer questions about registration and provide university information.
Additionally, SZU departments and student organizations set up service points throughout the campus. The University's courier station increased its staff to efficiently handle packages for new students. These thoughtful services ensured that every new student enjoyed a hassle-free and welcoming start to their university life.
A warm welcome: Volunteers and "orientation ambassadors" ensure smooth registration for new students
To ensure everything runs smoothly for the new students, SZU mobilized over 1,000 volunteers in advance. These volunteers greeted newcomers at Bao'an Airport, major train stations, and campus entrances. Each college and department organized a "person-to-person" service, assigning a dedicated orientation ambassador to each new student. Homeroom teachers, counselors, and these ambassadors had already made contact with the students before their arrival. On registration day, the ambassadors provided personalized, one-on-one support. This thoughtful approach made every new student's start at SZU a heartwarming and smooth experience.
Additionally, students from the Robot Pilots Lab at the College of Mechatronics and Control Engineering brought their robots to assist with luggage handling. This not only showcased the college's teaching and research expertise in robotics but also gave the freshmen a memorable tech experience.

With a quick click, freshmen and their families captured their very first photos at SZU. "Mom, Dad, don't worry! I've grown up now. At SZU, I'll take good care of myself.
