AS the university application process is about to commence, many universities in Shenzhen are hosting open days, offering the opportunity to visit and experience their campuses firsthand.

Shenzhen University (SZU)’s open day, held Saturday, attracted nearly 2 million participants both online and offline.

During a presentation at SZU’s Yuehai campus, SZU President Mao Junfa emphasized the university’s commitment to teaching students according to their aptitudes, delivering quality instruction, emphasizing interest-driven learning,, and promoting diverse choices. SZU also boasts a range of international exchange programs.

SZU is preparing to welcome 7,000 freshmen across 84 majors, including a new major in artificial intelligence. According to Zhu Lingyan, director of SZU’s admissions office, these major selections are tailored to meet the strategic needs of both the country and the city.

One of SZU’s key initiatives this year to nurture innovative talent is the establishment of four classes taught by academicians, who will act as class heads or chief professors.

A high school graduate surnamed Huang, accompanied by his mother, was spotted seeking advice from a SZU staff member at the Yuehai campus on Saturday morning. Huang expressed his desire to pursue fintech at SZU and hope to take the event to get a feel for life at SZU.

The open day also drew students from beyond the city. A recent high school graduate surnamed Liao from Heyuan, Guangdong Province, attended the event on her own. She expressed that SZU is her top choice and she aims to explore majors related to chemistry and medicine.

SZU’s open day featured 40 venues where students, parents, and other visitors could attend lectures and interact with scientific and technological equipment.
