
On the afternoon of April 26, Dr. Annette Schmidtmann, Head of the Department of Scientific Affairs at the German Research Foundation (DFG), along with her delegation, visited Shenzhen University (SZU). They were accompanied by Zhao Chuang, Director of the European Division at the International Cooperation Bureau of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Vice President Zhou Hui of SZU, alongside officials from the Department of Science and Technology Development and the International Office, as well as representatives of relevant experts from SZU, attended the symposium. Zhou Hui presided over the symposium.
Mr. Zhou Hui warmly welcomed the DFG delegation and provided a comprehensive overview of SZU's scientific research and development efforts. He also described in detail the significant achievements stemming from scientific research collaborations and talent cultivation initiatives with universities in Germany.
Dr. Annette Schmidtmann introduced the evolution of both DFG and the Sino-German Center for Research Promotion. DFG stands as Germany's foremost scientific research funding organization, globally renowned for its pivotal support of fundamental research spanning natural sciences, biological and medical sciences, engineering sciences, humanities and social sciences. The Sino-German Center for Research Promotion, a public institution jointly established by NSFC and DFG, has been instrumental in nurturing enduring scientific research partnerships between China and Germany.
Professors Peng Xiang and Fu Yu from the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, and Prof. Florian Stadler from the College of Materials Science and Engineering, shared their experiences of academic exchange and collaboration in Germany. They discussed the outcomes of their cooperative efforts with German researchers and outlined the promising prospects for future collaboration.
During their visit, the DFG delegation also toured the Tencent headquarters and the Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Devices and Systems of the Ministry of Education. This provided them with insights into SZU's scientific research endeavors and the local economic development.
