Mao Junfa, President of Shenzhen University, led a delegation to visit Hong Kong and deepen cooperation with universities in Hong Kong to serve the construction of the Greater Bay Area

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary celebration of Shenzhen University, Mao Junfa, President and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), was invited to lead a delegation to visit Hong Kong from February 20 to 23, 2023. He paid a visit to Zheng Yanxiong, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R., and visited major universities in Hong Kong to deepen closer cooperation with universities in Hong Kong, promote the implementation of the Shenzhen University’s projects to run universities in Hong Kong, and better serve the construction of the Greater Bay AreaofGuangdong-Hong Kong-Macao.

Mao Junfa was invited to attend the 2023 International Bay Area Summit hosted by the Hong Kong Academy of EngineeringSciencesand served as a guest speaker. He delivered a speech entitled“Helping to Build a New Ecology of Industry-University-Research Cooperation in the Bay Area”. In view of the main challenges in building a“Silicon Valley”intheGreater Bay Area, newconceptsand ideaswere proposedfor building an open and cooperative ecology in Industry-University-Research with a systematic concept.

During his stay in Hong Kong, Zheng Yanxiong, director ofthe Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R., met with Mao Junfa, listened to the introduction of the construction and development of Shenzhen University, and exchanged views on issues such as strengthening cooperation between Hong Kong and the Mainland in the field of higher education and cultivating and transporting talents for the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao.

During the visit, Mao Junfa and his delegation successively visited universities in Hong Kong such as the University of Hong Kong (HKU), the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Lingnan University (LU). Mao Junfa met with Zhang Xiang, President of HKU, Teng Jinguang, President of PolyU, Duan Chongzhi, President of CUHK, Yao Zuhui, Chairman of University Board of LU and Qin Sizhao, President-designate of LU, etc. He comprehensively introduced the history and achievements of Shenzhen University in the past 40 years, as well as its medium-and long-term development goals and ideas. He discussed with various universities to further strengthen teacher-student exchanges, deepen substantive cooperation in talent cultivation, scientific research and achievement transformation. They have reached broad consensus and achieved multiple cooperative results in jointly building a world-class higher education center in the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao.

Mao Junfa and his delegation also visited Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group, met with Li Dahong, the Chairman of the Board, and reached a consensus on establishing a strategic cooperative relationship, which will be in-depth cooperation in specialty construction, project research, student internship and external communication. He visited the Hong Kong headquarters of China Resources Group, met with Wang Cuijun, the General Manager, and conducted in-depth exchanges on scientific and technological innovation cooperation, transformation of scientific research achievements, joint talent cultivation, and form cooperation intentions. He visited Hong Kong Tomorrow Leader Education College to learn about the source of students in Hong Kong.

Mao Junfa and his delegation also met with alumni in Hong Kong and other social figures who are concerned about supporting the development of Shenzhen University.
