Shenzhen University has 8 disciplines ranked in the 2021Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject with 7 entering the world’s top 500, ranking the 9th nationwide for the number of ranked disciplines and taking the lead among local universities and“non-double first-class” universities in China.

According to the statistics of Cingta, this year 91 universities in Mainland China have managed to make it to the list with a total of 468 disciplines. Among them, Peking University, Tsinghua University and Zhejiang University each have 10 ranked subjects, taking the first spot among Mainland Chinese universities; Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Beijing Normal University, East China Normal University, Wuhan University and Sun Yat-sen University each have 9 ranked disciplines. Shenzhen University, along with Fudan University, Nanjing University, Tongji University, Southeast University and Xiamen University, has 8 ranked disciplines each. It is the only local university and “non-double first-class” university that ranks among the top ten in Mainland Chinafor the number of ranked disciplines in theTHEsubject rankings this year.
Shenzhen University has 7 disciplines among the world’s top 500. Engineering and technology is ranked in the 201-250 band, science and computer science, 251-300, life sciences, business and economics, and social sciences,301-400, psychology,401-500, and preclinical and clinical health, 501-600.
The recent years have witnessed the rapid improvement of strengths in disciplines of Shenzhen University. Seven disciplines, namely, engineering, clinical medicine, materials science, biology and biochemistry, computer science, chemistry, and physics rank global top 1% of ESI. This year, 22 subjects are included on ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2020 with seven subjects rated within the world’s top 100. In theTHEChina Subject Ratings 2020, Shenzhen University has 16 subjects rated, achieving an A score in 13 subjects, a B score in one subject, and a C score in two subjects, topping the local universities in China.
The THE World University Rankings by Subject cover 11 subjects: Arts and humanities, Business and economics, Clinical and health, Computer science, Education, Engineering, Law, Life sciences, Physical sciences, Psychology and Social sciences. The rankings draw on the same dataset and methodology as the THE World University Rankings 2021 based on five metrics, namely, teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income but this year’s rankings examine performance in 11 broad areas and the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the individual fields.
