On March 3rd, the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Global Education Group published “the 10th World University Rankings by Subjects”. Two Shenzhen University (SZU) disciplines, “Physics and Astronomy” and “Computer Science and Information Systems”, were selected into the world’s top 600 disciplines.

The ranking evaluated 1,368 universities from 83 countries and regions, covering 5 discipline groups and 48 disciplines. Chinese universities performed well, with 1,066 disciplines of 118 universities (Chinese mainland 84, Hong Kong 9, Taiwan 23, Macao 2) being selected into the global top 600. In Engineering and Technology and Natural Sciences disciplines, SZU has 2 subjects listed in the world's top 600, which are “Physics and Astronomy” in Engineering and Technology, and “Computer Science and Information Systems” in Natural Sciences, The two subjects rank the 30th and the 31st among the listed mainland universities, respectively.


Physics and Computer Science are among the key subjects of SZU. According to Essential Science Indicators (ESI) released by Clarivate Analytics on November 15th, 2019, Physics and Computer Science have been listed in the top 1% of ESI. At present, 7 disciplines of Shenzhen University have been ranked among the top 1% in ESI. The Computer Science discipline of Shenzhen University ranks 201st-250th globally, and 12th among the Chinese mainland universities, according to the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings released in November 2019.
