SZU Students Designated as "Outstanding Winner" in MCM/ICM 2020

When recently the results of COMAP'S Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) / Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM) 2020 were published, students of Shenzhen University showed some eye-catching achievements. Advised by teacher Weike Pan of the College of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Xiaowen Huang, Junfeng Lin and Zihao Guo were designated as ‘Outstanding Winner’ in this contest. This marks the second time Shenzhen University has an Outstanding Winner of MCM/ICM. Besides, Shenzhen University also won 6 ‘Finalist’ designations, 15 ‘Meritorious’ designations and 43 ‘Honorable Mentions’.

In the end, six teams received the designation ‘Outstanding Winner’ for this problem (about 0.08%).

MCM/ICM is the only international contest of mathematical modeling as well as the most influential contest of mathematical modeling in the world. Known as the ‘Olympics of mathematical modeling’, the contest is open to college students from all over the world and has become one of the most influential academic contests ever.

To achieve feats like this, students in Shenzhen University have greatly profited from a series of important measures in student cultivation by the school, such as encouraging undergraduates to enter research institutes or laboratories and promoting combinations of research and teaching.
