SZU Ranked #2 among Mainland Chinese Universities in World Young University Rankings


Shenzhen University ranked second in mainland China according to theQuacquarelli Symonds (QS) Top 50 Under 50 and Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings released on June 24, the only Mainland Chinese university that has entered both lists.

China has a total of 13 universities listed in the QS Top 50 Under 50 this year, including three Mainland Chinese universities: Shanghai University (51-60), Shenzhen University (101-150), and Central South University (101-150). In the THE Young University Rankings, 28 institutions from China are on the list, including six from the mainland, 16 from Taiwan, four from Hong Kong and two from Macao.

Both rankings feature only institutions that are aged 50 years or under. The QS Top 50 Under 50 evaluates universities across six indicators: academic reputation (40%), employer reputation (10%), faculty/student ratio (20%), citations per faculty (20%), international faculty ratio (5%) and international student ratio (5%).

The THE Young University Rankings assess universities according to the following five metrics:

Teaching (the learning environment): 30%

Research (volume, income and reputation): 30%

Citations (research influence): 30%

International outlook (staff, students, research): 7.5%

Industry income (knowledge transfer): 2.5%
