The Physical Education (PE) Teaching and Research Office was set up at Shenzhen University in 1983, which was replaced in 1986 by the Faculty of Physical Education, making Shenzhen University one of the first higher education institutions in China to replace the PE office.
The Faculty began to offer the master’s degree program in Sport Humanistic Sociology in 2006 and was approved to confer the master’s degrees in Physical Education by the Ministry of Education in 2011. After decades of development, the Faculty now offers four master’s degree programs in Sports Pedagogy and Training, Sport Humanistic Sociology, Human Movement Science, and Traditional Chinese Sports.
The Faculty provides students with an exceptional education that combines theory and practice aimed at cultivating and improving students’ innovative potential, practical skills and the ability to acquire, update and create knowledge. Our students participate in research programs with their supervisors at college, which significantly enhances their academic research ability, practical skills and innovation competence.
The Faculty boasts an accomplished faculty who take effective measures to train all-round, practice-oriented and creative talents. Faculty members focus on the core curriculum, strengthen practical teaching and motor skill development, and improve the curriculum system. The scientific training system designed for our students enables them to acquire knowledge and skills that are closely related to social demands, making our graduates highly employable. They are engaged in physical education, teaching and sports management, business and other fields after college, demonstrating the effectiveness of our talent training system. In 2017, the Faculty’s major of Physical Education entered the top 25% nationwide, ranking 15th among Mainland Chinese universities.
