Shenzhen University's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Mechanism Guarantee

“The 12th Five-Year Plan” of Shenzhen University establishes the goal to “build SZU into an innovative and entrepreneurial university with significant influence at home and abroad.” “The 13th Five-Year Plan” of Shenzhen University upholds the characteristics of innovative and entrepreneurial talent training, and one of its tasks is to “explore the new way to cultivate innovative and entrepreneurial talents for human and social development.”

In 2015, to put the guiding principles fromOpinions of the General Office of the State Council on Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform in UniversitiesandOpinions ofGuangdong Provincial Department of Education on Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform in Universitiesinto action, we adoptedOpinions of Shenzhen University on Further Innovation and Entrepreneurship Educationon putting forward the concept of innovation and entrepreneurship education for all college students and promoting curriculum construction, special experimental class construction, innovation activities, maker support, carrier construction, resource integration, cultural construction, incentive mechanism and the construction of the faculty, etc.

In 2017, the school issuedOutline of Cultural Innovation Development of Shenzhen Universitywhich focuses on the innovation and entrepreneurship education of college students, and aims to promote the integration of talent cultivation and social needs and strengthen platform construction of Shenzhen-Hong Kong university students' innovation and entrepreneurship bases. We hope to demonstrate the school philosophy of “down-to-earth and self-improvement,” and strengthen the spirit of “self-reliance, self-discipline, self-improvement” for enhancing cultural character of “openness and tolerance, dare to be first,” and enriching the connotation of SZU spirit.

Through the establishment of a special working group, Shenzhen University made the overall planning of deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform. By setting tasks goals, we built a coordinated and resource integration mechanism to bring together the teaching and research resources, administrative logistics resources, and alumni social resources of the whole school, which provided guarantee for the deepening reform work.

In July 2009, Shenzhen University established the College Student Innovation Park whose development and management will be coordinated by the Innovation Park Management Committee consisting of the head of the principal's office, the human resources department, the supervision and auditing office, the finance department, the logistics department, the graduate department, the student department, the Youth League Committee, the Ministry of Education, the Department of Experiments and Equipment, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Department of Social Sciences and the Alumni Association.

In June 2015, Shenzhen University established the Leading Group for the Innovation and Entrepreneurship education, a working group for college students' entrepreneurial activities and a team for innovative activities, which were under the charge of two vice president respectively. The leading group includes the Office of Party and Government, the Student Department, the Graduate Department, the Information Center, the Department of Experiments and Equipment, the Department of Science and Technology, and the Communist Youth League.

In March 2016, Shenzhen University established the School of Entrepreneurship, with the vice president as the dean, and the other principals of the relevant units as deputy deans. We built a coordinated and resource-integrated mechanism, and gathered the resources of the whole school to jointly create “curricular+ extracurricular,” “on campus + off campus,” “online + offline,” “theory + practice,” and “elite + public” modes.

In December 2017, the “Shenzhen University Double-Creation Base Leading Group” was established with the vice-chancellor as the team leader. The team members include the principals of relevant departments such as the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and Technology, Department of Social Sciences, Student Department, Youth League Committee, Graduate Department, Laboratory and Equipment Department, Finance Department, Xili Campus Management Office, Art Design College, Cultural Industry Research Institute, etc.

In July 2018, in order to implement theOpinions of the State Council on Promoting the High-quality Development of Innovation and Entrepreneurship to Create an Upgraded Version of “Double Creation,” Opinions of the General Office of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province on Deepening the Integration of Production and Education, andNotice of Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government on Further Strategic Development of Emerging industries Implementation Plan, Shenzhen University and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University jointly established the “Dawan District International School of Innovation.” In September, SZU formally established the “Dawan District International School of Innovation.” Relying on the School of Entrepreneurship, “Dawan District International School of Innovation” focuses on the industrial key areas and strategic emerging industries in the Dawan District. With needs of the science and technology industry innovation, the school will explore a talent training model that combines industrial development, and open new disciplines and majors for cultivating applied talents with strong sense of innovation and excellent ability, and becoming a high-level international innovation college undertaking high-quality international resource exchange, high-level policy research, high-level personnel training, high-value project incubation and so on.
