1. School of Materials Science and Engineering - 080500 Materials Science and Engineering (first-level discipline):

The research directions of this discipline include applied physics and chemistry, materials science and engineering, and materials process engineering. There is one double-employed academician, five doctoral supervisors and forty master supervisors. The discipline has wide-ranging teaching and research resources. It has a materials chemistry laboratory, a materials preparation laboratory, a polymer materials laboratory and a materials performance characterization laboratory, within the Materials Experiment Center of Shenzhen University; the experimental center of our school is a Guangdong provincial experimental teaching demonstrating center, and we are resource-sharing partner with Shenzhen Key Laboratory of special functional materials, fully equipped with facilities for processing, identification, analysis, and research and development; the School has been granted two provincial joint training bases of masters; it has also established professional internship and joint training programs with numerous companies and organizations. Students applying for this major are required to have a background in materials science, physics and chemistry.

2. College of Mass Communication-050300 Journalism and Communication (first-level discipline):

The research directions of this discipline include communication, journalism, advertising and media economy, visual communication and creative industries. The discipline attaches great importance to practice and takes an international outlook, and has a team of staff with strong backgrounds. The discipline has wide-ranging teaching and research resources. The College has carried out a number of major national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, established joint training bases of masters with various groups, a national-level center that demonstrates mass media experimental teaching, a joint Master-Ph.D. program with Hong Kong Baptist University, and joint Ph.D. training programs with universities in Japan, the United States, South Korea, and Taiwan. The employment rate of our graduates is 100 per cent. The career prospects for our students include project operation and management in on-line new media companies, such as Tencent, Baidu, and so on; journalists, editors, and advertisement operation management in mainstream mass media groups, such as Shenzhen Press Group, Radio and Television Group, Publishing Group, etc.; working in publicity department at all levels of government; marketing and advertising in corporations, film and television media groups, operation management in e-commerce companies; teachers at all levels. Generally, students applying for this major are not required to have received training as mass communication undergraduates, but they should have a strong interest in the contemporary news media development and cultural and creative industries, knowledge in humanities and science, a capacity for learning and exploration, and good reading and writing skills.

3. College of Electronic Science and Technology -080900 Electronic Science and Technology (first-level discipline):

The research directions of this discipline include microelectronics and solid-state electronics, electromagnetic field and microwave technology, and micro-nano photonics. The supervisors in this discipline include eighteen full professors and seventeen associate professors. The discipline has broad teaching and research resources. It runs the Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Micro-Nano Photonic Information Technology, the Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Flexible Storage Materials and Devices, the Shenzhen University Micro-Nano photonics Technology Research Institute and other first-class scientific research platforms; an integrated circuit design laboratory, semiconductor device and integrated circuit test laboratories, and an embedded systems and their application laboratory. In addition to regular scholarships, qualified master students can also receive the 15,000 RMB scholarship offered by the School. Also, 10% of our students are awarded a “Mintong Scholarship” for the amount of 5,000 RMB per year. Career prospects for our students include microelectronics, and the electronics and optoelectronics industry.

4. Law School - 030100 Law (first-level discipline):

The research directions of this discipline include international law, constitutional law and administrative law, economic law, criminal jurisprudence, civil law and commercial law, legal studies, litigation law, and intellectual property law. There are eighty-eight staff members in this discipline, sixty-eight of whomare academic staff members, which include twenty full professors, twenty-three associate professors, sixteen lecturers,39 off-campus supervisors and three doctoral supervisors. The discipline has a wide range of teaching and research resources. It has formed stable connections with twenty-eight organizations for its internship program, among which ten have signed long-term agreements as internship bases. The college has an electronic information reading room for up to 30 people. There are more than 300 square meters of experimental centers for forensic science with a total value of 4.17 million yuan. The School also has a mock court that is fully equipped and can accommodate up to 350 people. The career prospects for our students include politics and law departments at all levels of government, such as the Commission for Discipline Inspection, the Politics and Law Committee, the Bureau of Justice, and so on; the People’s Courts or the People’s Procuratorates at all levels; law firms, the legal affairs departments of companies and enterprises; Bureaus of Public Security at all levels, the Bureau of Prison Administration at all levels; state organs and institutions; and teaching and research at different institutes.

The research directions of this discipline include political theory, contemporary Chinese political direction (socialism with Chinese characteristics), comparative political institution studies, and urban politics and urban governance. Academic staff mainly consists of researchers from the Institute of Contemporary Chinese Politics of Shenzhen University. The discipline has extensive teaching and research resources. It hasone of the two first-level master’s degree programs in political science in Guangdong Province. With the support of Shenzhen University Urban Governance Research Institute/Contemporary Chinese Political Research Institute, the discipline has access to excellent teaching resources, a great variety of research directions, a multitude of research projects and plentiful opportunities for academic exchange. In addition to University scholarships, the School offers each of therecommended exemption master students a scholarship of30,000 RMB for three years to support their study and research.The career prospects for our students includecareers in university administration, civil service, journalism, secondary school education and so on. The research directions of this discipline include intelligent management decision-making and financial engineering, information systems and e-commerce, logistics and supply chain management. There are thirteen academic staff members in the discipline, including one distinguished professor. Nine of the thirteen members have a doctoral degree or above.The discipline has extensive teaching and research resources. It runs the “Experimental Teaching Center of Economics Management of Shenzhen University” under the Guangdong Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstrating Center of Higher Education Institutions, the “E-Commerce Innovation and Entrepreneurship Laboratory” and the “Intelligent Management and Decision-making Collaboration” Innovation Center, funded by Central Government Support for local colleges and universities.The career prospects for our students includecivil service, management consulting, information industry, financial taxation and other related enterprises and government institutions, including the Shenzhen Municipal General Office, the Insurance Regulatory Bureau, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, IBM, Baidu, and so on. 7. College of Management - 120200 Business Management (first-level discipline):

The research staff of this discipline include one tenured professor of a prestigious American university, one winner of the Ministry of Education New Century Excellent Talents Supporting Plan, four awardees of the Guangdong Provincial “Thousand Hundred Ten Talents Project,” four awardees of the High-Level Professional program in Shenzhen, seven awardees of the Overseas High-Caliber Personnel program in Shenzhen, one Shenzhen University Excellent Scholar, and three Shenzhen University “Liyuan Excellent Young Scholars.” This discipline has access to a wide variety of scientific research projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation and the National 973 Key Program in science and technology, national soft science and technology projects, and various local research projects. Besides,it has formedclose cooperation relationship with well-known universities and research institutions at home and abroad. Graduates of this discipline will have career prospects in the government, other institutions, and enterprises and corporations. The research directions of this discipline include administrative management, public policy, non-profit organizations and urban governance. Except for two graduates who continued to pursue doctoral degrees at Jilin University and Xiamen University, the employment rate of graduates in this discipline in the year 2018 reached 100 percent.The career prospects for our students includecivil service, financial taxation, government institutions, management consulting, and so on. Students applying for this discipline are required to have a bachelor's degree.Recommended exemption master studentsare welcome, especially from universities that are qualified for conferring master’s or doctoral degrees.

The research directions of this discipline include laser technology and laser devices, photoelectric detection and sensing technology, biophotonics, micro-nanophotonic materials and devices, infrared and terahertz technology and devices. Supervisors in this discipline include nine full professors, six associate professors and three lecturers.The discipline has extensive teaching and research resources. It hasfirst-class scientific research platforms including the Guangdong Colleges and Universities Key Laboratory of Advanced Optical Precision Manufacturing Technology, and the Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Laser Engineering. Most of our graduates chose to work in well-known optoelectronic high-tech enterprises in Shenzhen, such as Huawei Technologies, Oclaro Technology Shenzhen, Sanmina Technology Shenzhen, Shenzhen Han’s Laser Technology, Shenzhen NeoPhotonics, Shenzhen Tianma Microelectronics, and others. Some graduates chose to pursue further studies at well-known universities and research institutes at home and abroad, such as Southampton University, Iowa State University, Texas Christian University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Institute of Optics and Mechanics, and Shenzhen Advanced Technology Research Institute.

10. College of Optoelectronic Engineering -080300 Optical Engineering (first-level discipline):

The research directions of this discipline include photoelectric information technology, laser technology and systems, photonic technology and devices, and optical technology and instruments. Supervisors in this discipline include seventeen full professors, five associate professors, nine doctoral supervisors, one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, one Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor, two awardees of the National Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, three awardees of the Guangdong Provincial “Thousand Hundred Ten Talents Project,” and one Pearl River Scholar.The discipline is fully equipped in teaching and research resources.The College of Optoelectronic Engineering is linked to the Institute of Optoelectronics Institute.It hasaccess to the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Devices and Systems and Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Devices and Systems. The Institute possesses scientific research instruments and equipment worth over 100 million RMB, ninety percent of which is imported from abroad, available to the graduate students. There are joint international laboratories established with institutions in the United States and Singapore, with shared resources open to all partners. Besides the option of pursuing a doctoral degree or studying abroad, graduates mainly chose to work in Shenzhen's optoelectronic companies, engage in Research & Development work, and most of them have developed into technical backbone or project leaders. The main research orientations include architectural design and theory, architectural history and theory and heritage preservation, green city and architecture, architecture and environmental technology, and urban design. It has a strong faculty team of eighty-nine members, including one member of the National Higher Education Architecture Teaching Steering Committee, one member of the National Higher Education Institutions Urban Planning Steering Committee, and one member of the Architectural Society of China. Twenty-four of the faculty are professors, accounting for 27% of the total staff; twenty-seven are associate professors, accounting for 30.3%; thirty-eight are lecturers, accounting for 42.7%. Finally, sixty of the faculty have a doctoral degree, accounting for 67.4%. The teaching and research resources are abundant. The School of Architecture & Urban Planning maintains its own branch library, a building physics laboratory (one of Shenzhen Key Laboratories), a laboratory of architectural model and building materials and a building digitalization laboratory (a local project supported by the central government). The main research orientations include political economy, history of economic thought,population resources and environmental economics, western economics, economic history and world economics.There are thirty-nine faculty members, including twenty-four professor, nine associate professors, and four with mid-level titles. Among them, thirty-ninehave Ph.D. degrees, twenty-five are doctoral supervisors, and thirteen are master supervisors; one expert has the Special Government Allowance of the State Council, and there are five young and middle-aged talents from well-known overseas universities. There are twenty part-time researchers from China and abroad, all of whom are professors; seven visiting professors from home and abroad, including one that is supported by the Changjiang Scholars Program, one thatenjoys the Special Government Allowance of the State Council, one that is supported bythe Recruitment Program of Global Experts, and two social celebrities.In the past five years, the school has published more than 131 papers in high-level international and domestic journals, undertaken thirty-nine national scientific research projects, eighty-seven provincial scientific research projects, and published more than fifty-five academic works, and 14 people have received scientific research awards at the provincial or ministerial level.

027000 Statistics(first-level discipline)

The main research orientations include economic modeling and quantitative analysis, mathematical statistics, financial statistics, risk management and actuarial sciences, and big data analysis. This discipline cultivates professionals with a sound knowledge of economics, mathematical statistics and data analysis, who can skillfully use statistical methods and statistical software to analyze data and have the basic ability to do academic research. It nurtures experts in basic theories and statistical methods, who can skillfully use computers to do data identification, statistical inference, simulation analysis, multi-dimensional comprehensive evaluation of big data, etc., as well as engage in data collection, big data modeling, measurement analysis, data mining (statistical learning), etc. in enterprises, institutions and management departments. Students will be trained as statisticians, risk assessors, and big data engineers. After graduation, they will be engaged in statistical application research and data analysis in government, enterprises, and economic and management departments.

The main research orientations include auditing, financial accounting, corporate finance, smart city and environmental remote sensing. The College has rich teaching and research resources, with ten faculty members in this discipline, including four professors, three associate professors, and three lecturers. 030500 Marxist Theory

The disciplinefocuses on the integrity research of Marxist Theory. Through the study ofthe Basic Theory of Marxismand its teaching practices and rules, it investigates dialectical materialism and historical materialism, with emphasis on the combination of theory and practice, of inheritance and innovation, and of scientific spirit and dialectical unity of ideology. It has established a disciplinary system of discourse embodying Marxist positions, viewpoints and methods to enhance the disciplinary influence and discourse power of Marxist Theory. The discipline of Marxist Theory is adapted to the needs of the development of the times and the practical needs of the construction of socialism with contemporary Chinese characteristics. It is responsible for the training of Marxist theoretical talents, scientific research, social services and cultural inheritance, and provides academic support for the teaching of ideological and political theory courses in Shenzhen University. The construction and development of Marxist Theory follows the law of disciplinary development, the law of Marxist theory development and the law of education of ideological and political theory. It not only pays attention to the overall study of Marxism, but also focuses on the latest achievements ofthe Sinicization of Marxism, closely following the course of socialist modernization construction with contemporary Chinese characteristics and the great practice of the construction of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and strives to improve the quality of education and level of the discipline.

There are eleven secondary disciplines in biology in which master’s students are recruited, including botany, zoology, microbiology, aquatic biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, cell biology, developmental biology, physiology, neurobiology, genetics and bioinformatics. It has a doctoral program in photobiology. Research areas of this discipline includeart management and cultural creativity, art history and cultural heritage, and art theory and cultural innovation. The Master’s program in Art Theory was one of the first master’s degree programs in art theory in Guangdong that was accredited by the Ministry of Education.
